3-wheel vs 4-wheel scooters
A 3-wheel mobility scooter has a tighter turning radius and more legroom, which makes it the better choice for indoor use, shops, hallways, apartments and tight sidewalks. A 4-wheel mobility scooter trades some manoeuvrability for extra stability, so it handles grass, gravel driveways, cambered pavements and longer outdoor trips more comfortably. If most of your riding is outdoors or on uneven ground, choose four wheels; if you mainly move around the home, a shopping centre or a care facility, three wheels will feel lighter and easier to steer.

They use lightweight lithium batteries, which most airlines accept as mobility equipment when the pack is removable and within the stated watt-hour limit. Charge after each longer ride rather than draining the battery completely, store the scooter above freezing point, and top the battery up at least monthly if the scooter is unused. Treated this way, a sealed lead-acid pack typically lasts 18 to 24 months and a lithium pack considerably longer.

Always stay within the stated maximum load, and add the weight of any shopping or equipment you carry. For daily comfort, look for an adjustable tiller, a padded swivel seat and armrests that lift out of the way, all of which make transfers in and out of the seat much easier for anyone with limited strength or balance.
